Intro
Korvai is the defining weaving technique of a classic Kanjivaram silk saree — the body and border are woven separately, in different colours, then interlocked together by hand at the loom. This is what gives a korvai saree its signature contrast border and added weight and durability at the seam. Every korvai saree here is handwoven by our Kanchipuram weaver families, in pure mulberry silk, Silk Mark certified.
How Korvai Weaving Works
The interlocking technique means the border is a genuinely separate piece of weaving joined to the body, not printed or dyed on — you can often see and feel the join line where the two colours meet. This collection includes a range of border widths, from small contrast borders to bold statement borders, and pairs with pure zari or lighter zari work depending on the piece.
When to Wear a Korvai Saree
The structured contrast border makes korvai sarees a strong choice for weddings, temple functions, and formal festive occasions. Pair a bold-border korvai piece with traditional gold jewellery for a classic bridal look — see our bridal collection for heavier korvai weaves designed specifically for wedding wear.
Care & Authenticity
Feel for the join line between the body and border colours — a genuine korvai saree has a slightly raised seam where the two weaves interlock, while a printed imitation won't. Full care guidance: Saree Wash & Silk Care.
